Mission Opportunities

Angel Tree: Hang items on or place under the Christmas tree located in the hallway outside of the sanctuary in December. These items are delivered to the Newgate Mission by our youth.  
Scouts: The church sponsors a Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack.  We host a Girl Scout Troop.  
Clothes Closet: Clothes are collected, sorted, displayed and sold at the Clothes Closet. Baby items and household items are also sold. The Clothes Closet is opened on Thursdays and Saturdays. 
Eyeglasses Donation: Drop used eyeglasses in the box on the table outside the church office.
Falltastic: This is a community-wide event, providing an alternative to Trick-or-Treating and includes games, food and prizes.
Flower Ministry: One Monday a month rearrange the alter flowers into small vases and deliver them to the sick and shut-ins.  
Holiday Food Boxes:  Drop designated goods into the box located in the hallway leading to the sanctuary.   The boxes are decorated, packed and taken to Tri-County Community Action for distribution. 
Literacy Center – Kent House: Our church provides free rent, utilities and tutoring.
Newgate: Serve lunch at Newgate Mission in Longview on the first Friday of each month and every 5th Thursday. 
Newgate: Prepare and serve breakfast at Newgate Mission in Longview on one or more Saturdays in July.  
Puppets for Jesus: a youth ministry of our church and is open to any youth from the 6th grade up. They perform during worship several times each year and are always open to new faces and ideas.
Relay for Life: Fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. You may assist by providing baked goods for the Bake Sale, helping with the luncheon, donating college textbooks to sell online, donating items for the silent auction, walking or manning the booth at the event or making a monetary donation. 
Sager-Brown: Mission Trip scheduled for May 3 – 8, 2015. Serve by packing health kits, school kits, sew baby clothes or school bags and help with food distribution. The cost is $200 per person.  
Sponsor a Seminary Student in Cambine, Mozambique:  $100 will provide bread, tea, sugar, butter, and the occasional egg.  The seminary students have recently been provided money to buy chickens and coops so they can raise chickens to provide themselves more eggs as well as learn the skills to share with others. 
Sponsor an Orphan in Cambine, Mozambique: $100 will provide school uniforms, books and supplies, and food which must be purchased, such as rice. The orphanage is also beginning rice and potato production in addition to chicken/egg production. 
UMARMY: A week-long mission trip for Sr. High youth. The youth meet with youth from other churches and spend the week doing repairs and maintenance work in the homes of the elderly and needy of the community where the camp is held. Campers stay in the fellowship hall of the “host church” and meals are provided by nearby churches. 
MYF: United Methodist Youth Fellowship - Christian service, training, and fellowship for youth in grades 7 – 12.  They meet, along with the youth bell choir, each Wednesday from 6 - 8 p.m. for a meal, programs and projects.
Upshur County Shares – Food Bank: Church provides personnel and monetary support. 
Vacation Bible SchoolA week-long Christian adventure for children from kindergarten through the 6th grade. The date varies each year but it is usually held between mid-June to mid-July.
